Our Heritage & Story – A Family Tradition in Craftsmanship
The heritage & roots of J. A. Pell & Son trace back to the late 1970s. James Albert Pell (Senior) partnered with an associate to operate a series of builder’s merchant shops under the name Cherry Home Care. Supplying building materials to both tradespeople and DIY enthusiasts, this early venture laid the groundwork for a lifelong dedication to the construction and property renovation industry.
1986 – Forming A Lasting Legacy
In 1986, James Albert Pell, fondly known as Jim (Senior), established himself as an independent tradesman, focusing on high quality property renovation and refurbishment solutions. Following in the footsteps of his own father, a skilled Cabinet Maker and Joiner in his heyday. Jim carried forward the family’s deep-rooted craftsmanship and traditional values. The two often worked together on projects until Jim’s father retired from the tools. Jim continued to grow as a independent entity, really establishing himself in the 1990’s by recommendations and word of mouth.
In the early 2000s, Jim welcomed his son, James Adam Pell (Adam – Junior), into the business as a full time apprentice shortly after Adam left school. Over the next several years, father and son worked side-by-side, passing down skills, knowledge, and values that have defined the Pell name for generations.
After five years of hands-on experience, Adam began to take on a more active role, gradually stepping into leadership within the family business. This natural transition led to the proud formation of J. A. Pell & Son, a name representing both Jim (Senior) and Adam (Junior). Despite the growth, Jim remained a proud sole trader, maintaining the close knit, family run approach.
In 2022, Jim took on a more relaxed role and focused on office duties and client relations. Though he stepped back from daily operations, he still cherished joining Adam for the occasional traditional jobs he loved and excelled with knowledge and experience in. Jim had intended to retire fully in April 2023 at the age of 72.
Tragically, Jim passed away on March 13th, 2023, just weeks before his planned retirement. His passion, work ethic, and legacy remain deeply embedded in everything we do today.
The Future – J. A. Pell & Son Limited
Since April 2023, Adam has proudly taken the reins of J. A. Pell & Son Limited specialising in Property Renovation, Refurbishment & Maintenance, continuing to trade under the family name. With a steadfast commitment to the same principles Jim instilled; honesty, quality, and pride in our craft. We move forward with great respect for the past and and embrace the future with pride and optimism.
He may of left but his legacy lives forever…
