Bespoke Garden Workshop Ongar Essex

J. A. Pell & Son recently created this fantastic bespoke garden workshop in Ongar Essex. The client decided a pre-built shed was not fit for purpose so wanted us to construct a bespoke solution to fit their needs. Please note this is not a standard single skin shed with poor structural properties like most off the shelf sheds. J. A. Pell & Son can cover all your carpentry needs with bespoke garden rooms, garden sheds, and garden workshops. Please get in contact for a competitive no obligation quote! We have completed a few garden rooms in Essex and surrounding London areas now with great results. You can see another one of our other garden room projects on our website also.

The existing small dilapidated shed was removed with all the rubbish cleared at the same time using our tipper truck, this way the client was not inconvenienced by a skip. A tanalised timber frame was created for the base, which sat on a damp course membrane, slabs, and concrete pilings for great moisture resistant support. Even though all the timbers used were tanalised, we treated all the timbers again with SikaGuard Universal 5 Star Wood Treatment, which a fantastic product to add extra preservation measures for future long life.

The front, back and side elevations were constructed from tanalised timbers, then we used a cladding method with a breathable cavity. This ensures all moisture is kept away from the internal structure, keeping things dry and damp free inside. To construct such a system, the timbers were covered in plywood, we then installed a Dupont Tyvek breathable membrane system, this was then battened with tanalised roofing battens and finished with a cladding of the client’s choosing. Many different cladding options are available, which range in cost, quality and visual preferences.

A bespoke tanalised door liner was created with a weather proofing drip at the top, which received two ledge and brace doors. The doors were fitted with a pair and a half of 4” Parliament hinges on each door, a 5 lever mortice lock top and bottom, a latch and 5 lever mortice lock in the centre, two large bolts on the slave door, a bespoke weather proofing strip at the bottom of each door. The liner and the doors were all finished in a great looking Forest Oak coloured preserver.

The tanalised roof timbers were installed and then the roof was ply lined complete with arris rails. The very talented roofers at D.A Doyle Roofing came in and done a fantastic job as always installing a felt roof complete with welted drips. It was then complete with a run of half round black gutter and downpipe.

The inside was finished off with a few low running cost but very bright, LED 4000k/4400lm batton lights. And a small work bench to the client’s spec.

A very nice project and the client is over the moon with their new garden workshop.

A big thanks again to all our partner trades Dave & Jay (Roofers) and suppliers T Chambers & Son (Timber Merchant) on this, you guys are very much appreciated.
